A rappresentare quest’anno la Germania, che l’anno scorso ottenne ‘zero points’ con Jendrik, ci sarà Malik Harris con il suo brano “Rockstar”. Riuscirà a riscattare una delle storiche Big Five dopo il non entusiasmante risultato dell’anno scorso?
In attesa di seguire in diretta sulla nostra pagina ufficiale facebook, martedì 10, giovedì 12 e sabato 14, dalle 20.00 gli speciali dedicati a ESC2022, Matolas ha incontrato Malik Harris che gareggerà con il brano “Rockstar”.
Ecco cosa ci ha raccontato Malik Harris (dopo il video la versione in inglese):
“Diamo il benvenuto a Malik Harris che rappresenterà la Germania all’Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Cosa ti aspetti da questa avventura?”
Mi sto concentrando sul divertirmi il più possibile. Sono super emozionato e già ho avuto modo di intraprendere questo viaggio con tanto divertimento, avendo già potuto conoscere diversi artisti, ascoltando le canzoni ai pre-party e incontrare tutti i fan così appassionati. E’ l’esperienza più folle che vivrò sicuramente, e se riuscirò a prendere tutto questo e tutto il divertimento possibile sarà per me già una grande vittoria.
“Raccontaci del brano che porti in gara, “Rockstar”, come lo hai scelto per l’Eurovision? E chi è per te una rockstar?”
“Rockstar” è dedicata soprattutto alla mia adolescenza e alla mia gioventù. Mi guardo indietro a quando ero una giovane rockstar che non si preoccupava di nulla. Poi si cresce e inizi a perdere tutta questa spensieratezza da rockstar e inizi a concentrarti su varie cose e pensieri. Mi fa sorridere che molti pensino che sia alla vita da rockstar mentre invece si riferisce alla mia infanzia. Se dovessi dire chi è una rockstar per me, ti direi mio nonno, nonostante fosse un cantante di opera, è stato un grande idolo per me grazie alla sua passione per la musica.
“La prima volta che ho sentito “Rockstar”, ho sentito delle influenze alla Eminem, nel suo mood più intimo come in “Stan” per esempio. Quali sono gli artisti che ti hanno influenzato di più?”
Ce ne sono davvero tanti: Eminem è sicuramente uno di questi; poi anche NF, giovane rapper americano che ti consiglio; ma anche ascolti più vecchi, grazie a mio nonno e la mia famiglia, come Michael Jackson, Queens, Prince, che mi hanno fatto muovere i primi passi nella musica e continuo ad ascoltare ovviamente ancora oggi. Più recentemente ascolto tantissimo anche i twenty one pilots, che sono il mio gruppo preferito; sono stati quasi un’ispirazione per me quando ho scritto i primi brani perché come io da ascoltatore grazie alla loro musica sono stato aiutato, così vorrei che i miei brani possano aiutare chi li ascolta. Ma sono fan anche degli Imagine Dragons e potrei andare avanti per ore…
“Sei mai stato in Italia prima d’ora? Conosci qualche parola e qualche artista italiano con il quale ti piacerebbe collaborare?”
Ci sono stato tanti anni fa, quando ero più giovane venivo con i miei amici in Italia almeno una volta all’anno per sciare. Conosco poche parole come “grazie”, “prego” e “ciao”; parlo un po’ di spagnolo che ho studiato a scuola ma ho paura a dire altro perché non riesco a distinguere bene il limite tra le due lingue e non vorrei spacciare parole spagnole per italiane. Una delle mia canzoni preferite e che con gli amici cantavamo sempre in gita era un brano di Eros Ramazzotti… “Se bastasse una vecchia canzone…”.
“A parte il tuo brano, quale canzone ti piace di più? Ce n’è qualcuna che temi per la gara?”
Ci sono tantissimi brani molto belli quest’anno. Mi piace tantissimo “Brividi”, che è una canzone bellissima perché è una ballad che non esplode mai ma si muove in quel range e mi piace tantissimo questa cosa che permette di ascoltare ogni singola parola per bene. Mi piace anche il brano del Belgio, di Jeremie Makiese che ha queste vibes molto R’n’B e “Space man” di Sam Ryder che non mi si leva più dalla testa, con questo stile molto retrò e alla Elton John.
“Nessuno immaginava che ancora nel 2022 avremmo vissuto una guerra: cosa vorresti dire riguardo questa incredibile guerra in Ucraina? Pensi che la musica possa salvare ed unire il mondo?”
Una delle cose più belle della musica è quella di unire; riesce a connetterci in una maniera sorprendente e speciale. Sono molto contento di far parte dell’Eurovision perché il principio non è una gara ma di andare a condividere e celebrare le diversità dell’Europa con i suoi paesi e le sue nazioni e le sue culture. Penso non ci sia un altro show che riesca ad unire così bene diversi paesi e sono sicuro che quest’anno mostreremo al mondo intero che siamo tutti vicini all’Ucraina.
“Ed ora prima di salutarci, è il tuo momento dell’APPELLO PER FARTI VOTARE: puoi dire quello che vuoi per ottenere voti da tutta Europa!”
Ciao a tutti, sarei molto felice che voi votaste per me. Non vedo l’ora di andare a Torino, suonare la mia canzone, e calcare questo palco incredibile. “Please welcome Malik Harris who represents Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. What do you expect from your participation?
I am just trying to have as much fun as possible. I am super excited already This whole journey has been so much fun already meeting the other artists, performing the song at the pre-party and meeting the fans that are so passionate; It is such a crazy experience and if I can absorb all of this and have fun I will be happy with it.
“Would you like to talk about your song “Rockstar”? How did you choose it for the Eurovision? Who is a Rockstar for you?”
“Rockstar” is actually about my childhood and my youth. I am just looking back at being a young rockstar who didn’t really care about a thing. Then you grow up and you start losing that light-heartiness of being a young rock star and you caught up in thinking and stuff. It is funny because a lot of people think it’s about a rockstar but it is about children. Probably my grandpa is my “Rockstar” even though he was an opera singer and he was a big idol for me.
“When I first listened to your song, I heard an Eminem intimate’s ballad mood, like “Stan” for example. What artists influenced your carrier the most?”
There are a lot of artists: NF, Eminem but also through my grandfather and my family I had old influence, Michael Jackson, Queens, Prince, those were my first steps into music and I still listen to them. But also from twenty one pilots, they are my favorite band and they kind of inspire me to write my first song because as a listener their music helped me through a lot and that made me realize that I can help people too. Also Imagine Dragons and the list goes on and on…
“Have you been in Italy before? Do you know some words and artists in Italian? Who would you like to do a duet with?”
It’s been a long time. When I was very young I used to go with a friend of mine to Italy once a year. I know “grazie”, “prego” and “ciao”. I can speak a little bit of Spanish because I studied at school but I don’t know where Spanish finishes and Italian starts and I don’t want to say any Spanish word in italian. One of my favorite song and with my friend we always listen to Eros Ramazzotti… “Se bastasse una vecchia canzone…”
“A part for your song, which one in the competition do you like the most? And who are you scared of?”
There are so many songs this year. I love brividi, it is such a nice song because it is very reduced and I am a huge fan of song that don’t explode and you can hear all the lyrics. I also like Belgium’s entry. It has these R’n’B vibes too. Uk’s “Space man” its stuck in my head and it as old vibes like Elton John.
“We’re all living bad times with this incredible war. What would you like to say about it? Could music save and unite the world?”
One of the greatest thing about music is that unites us all. It connects us on a very special level. I am very happy to be part of Eurovision because it is not a competition is more a coming together of a whole continent and celebrating different countries and cultures. And this is so beautiful and I really can’t think of any other event that brings together all the countries united. And this year I am sure we will show the world we are all with Ukraine united.
