Nella puntata dedicata al Festa della Liberazione del 25 Aprile, abbiamo conosciuto meglio i The Wrecks, band americana che ci ha presentato in esclusiva per l’Italia il singolo “I love this part”.
Abbiamo avuto il piacere di chiacchierare e conoscere meglio Nick, frontman dei The Wrecks, conoscendo meglio questo gruppo influenzato tra gli altri dai The Killers, The Black Keys e Cage the Elephant. Nick ci ha raccontato di come si sono formati, di quali sono i prossimi progetti, legati al nuovo album e di quale artista italiano conosce e con il quale vorrebbe collaborare in futuro.
Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato Nick dei The Wrekcs, dopo il video la versione in inglese:
“Siamo in compagnia di Nick dei The Wrecks per parlare del loro ultimo singolo “I love this part”. Hai detto che è stato come un urlo intimo riguardo dei momenti e pensieri personali che stavi affrontando. Ti è servito come terapia? Come è nata la canzone?”
Stavo attraversando la fine di una relazione e questa è stata la maniera migliore per affrontarla e superarla. Con “I love this part” ho trasformato questi sentimenti di tristezza che provavo in qualcosa di più forte e di più trascurabile, per dimenticarlo. Ho deciso di affrontarlo a testa alta e non lasciarmi andare in malora.
“Come si sono formati i The Wrecks? E come avete scelto questo nome per la vostra band?”
Ci siamo formati nel 2015; ho incontrato gli altri ragazzi mentre eravamo tutti in altre band. E’ successo tutto un po’ così per caso: avevo dei brani pronti e ho solo chiesto ai ragazzi se volevano farne parte e formare la nostra band. Per il nome The Wrekcs stavamo cercando dei segnali, delle indicazioni stradali, qualcosa del genere, poi il nostro vecchio manager aveva proposto The Wrecks ed alla fine abbiamo accettato perché ci piaceva.
“Quali sono i vostri artisti preferiti? E con chi vi piacerebbe collaborare per un duetto?”
I miei artisti preferiti in questo momento sono Pheoby Bridges e Lizzy Mcalpine; sto ascoltando i loro brani tutti i giorni, ogni giorno. I The Wrecks invece sono sicuramente stati ispirati dai The Killers, Cage the Elephant, The Black Keys e tanti altri grandi nomi del pop punk della scorsa decade. Sono cresciuto con tantissimo pop punk ed è per questo che nella nostra musica c’è anche tanta angoscia. and a lot of the bigger old pop artists of the last decades. I grew up with that lot of pop punk music so there is a lot of that angst in our music.
“State lavorando al nuovo album? Cosa ci potete dire riguardo a quale sarà il mood?”
Lo descriverei come un album post-apocalyptic dopo la fine di una relazione. Ci sarà il vuoto, la solitudine dopo una separazione, poi anche il rimpianto e la meschinità. In pratica potremmo definirlo come l’opposto di quello che veniva raccontato in “Don’t look back in anger” degli Oasis.
“Conoscete qualche artista Italiano? Ed anche qualche Festival italiano ed europeo come Sanremo o l’Eurovision?”
Sfortunatamente, nonostante siamo in attività da sette anni, non siamo mai usciti fuori dal Nord America ed abbiamo davvero tanta voglia di venire in Italia! Conosco credo tanti artisti italiani, di cui però non mi vengono in mente i nomi, se non per esempio i Maneskin, che sono assolutamente incredibili!
“Prima di salutarci volete fare un saluto agli amici della Hit Chart Top 20 da parte dei The Wrecks?”
Hey, io sono Nick dei The Wrecks e saluto tutti i fan della Hit Chart Top 20. Non vediamo l’ora di venire in Italia e poter fare anche qualche show dal vivo, speriamo presto!
“Here we are with The Wrecks to talk about your latest single “I love this part”. Nick felt it as a true yell of intimate and personal thoughts and moments. Is it like a therapy for you? How was it born?”
I was going through a breakup and it was a way for me to cope with it and go through it. It was a way to convert these sad feelings into something more fierce and more petty. I decided to take it head on instead of letting it bumming out.
“How did The Wrecks get together? And why did you choose this name?”
We started our band in 2015. I met the guys with other bands. We just happened to be in between jobs when I had songs and I asked them if they wanted to join. We were reading signs and road streets in order to come up with a name. I think one of the old manager had the wrecks and we chose it and it works.
“What are your favorite artists? And which one do you want to collaborate with?”
My personal favourite artist is like Pheoby Bridges, Lizzie Mcalpine I have been listening to them all the time. “Girls house” and she is incredible, our band is inspired by The Killers, Cage the Elephant, The Black Keys and a lot of the bigger old pop artists of the last decades. I grew up with that lot of pop punk music so there is a lot of that angst in our music.
“Are you working on the new album? What will the mood of the new LP be?”
I described it as a post-apocalyptic break up. The emptiness the loneliness of a break up and then regret and pettiness… it’s the opposite of “Don’t look back in anger” of Oasis.
“Do you know any Italian artists? And do you know Italian Festivals such as Sanremo Festival or Eurovision Song Contest?”
We never been out of North America and we are so eager to come to Italy. There’s a lot of Italian artists probably I don’t even realized that are Italian but for example I know Maneskin; they are amazing!!
