Jendrik sarà il rappresentante della Germania in questo Eurovision Song Contest, che, essendo una delle Big Five, è automaticamente di diritto in finale, con il brano “I don’t feel hate”.
In attesa di seguire in diretta su Radio Music Evolution, martedì 18, giovedì 20 e sabato 22, dalle 20.30 gli speciali dedicati a ESC2021, Matolas & Claudia hanno incontrato Jendrik in gara con il brano “I don’t feel hate”.
Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato Jendrik (dopo il video, anche la versione inglese):
“Diamo il benvenuto a Jendrik, che rappresenterà la Germania all’Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Cosa ti aspetti dalla tua partecipazione?”
Mi aspetto di divertirmi moltissimo. Sono sicuro sarà una delle esperienze migliore della mia vita. Non mi aspetto di arrivare in una posizione in particolare, anche se chiaramente vado anche per gareggiare per il primo posto ma voglio assolutamente godermi appieno tutta l’esperienza.
“Ti va di raccontarci del tuo brano “I don’t feel hate”? Ha un sound molto felice e divertente, pur avendo un messaggio importante al suo interno, vero?”
Esattamente! Il messaggio della mia canzone è che non bisogna rispondere all’odio con l’odio. Se qualcuno ti ha mancato di rispetto, non controbattere; sii migliore e una persone migliore. Vi invito a dire a quella persona che vi ha mancato di rispetto, che vi ha ferito, in modo gentile, perché sono convinto che la gentilezza è la migliore soluzione. Controbattere, lottando non porta da nessuna parte se non a litigare ancora di più all’infinito. Sii una persona migliore e non odiare!
“Tu ti sei auto prodotto sia i brani che i videoclip, che hai usato come promozione attraverso i social media come Tik Tok e Instagram. Credi che i social siano essenziali per costruire la propria carriera musicale di questi tempi?”
Assolutamente sì! E’ essenziale ed è anche la ragione per cui oggi io sono qui all’Eurovision e a parlare con voi. Sono all’Eurovision Song Contest grazie ai video che ho pubblicato su Tik Tok; se non li avessi fatti, non sarei stato notato e non sarei qui. Non si può pensare solo alla musica, anche perché la musica non ti dà soldi… io sono ancora povero infatti! (ride) I social servono per presentarsi su Internet e mostrarsi per chi si vorrebbe essere o seguire.
“Sfortunatamente non vedremo sul palco il costume del ‘dito medio’, presente nel video, per le regole dell’ESC. Lo sai che c’è un hashtag #giustiziaperilditomedio? Possiamo tranquillizzare tutti dicendo che però il ‘dito medio’ tornerà poi con te in tour in futuro?”
In realtà in qualche modo sarà con me sul palco, perché ci sarà il costume del ‘segno della pace’, che è formato dell’indice e dal dito medio; quindi giustizia è fatta! Ho saputo dell’hashtag e mi ha fatto molto ridere, ho molto apprezzato: le persone urlavano: “No! Giustizia per il dito medio!!” Ma so che ora c’è un nuovo hashtag in giro su internet perché in uno dei miei video c’era un pene disegnato sullo sfondo.
Alcune persone hanno detto “Devi censurarlo!” e allora ho provveduto, ma poi le persone hanno iniziato a twittare “Giustizia per il pene! Liberate il pene!” ed è stato tutto davvero così assurdo e incredibile. Tutti questi hashtags sono così strani… forse sto mandando vibrazioni strane chissà… (sorride)
“Sappiamo anche che hai preso parte ai cori della canzone “10 Years” degli Islandesi Dadi Freyr. Come è stato lavorare con loro? E qual è la tua canzone preferita di quest’anno?”
In realtà non so ancora se farò parte della canzone; ho giusto mandato a loro la mia parte ma non sono sicuro che verrà utilizzata, vedremo… Ovviamente ho una mia canzone preferito ma non ve la dirò perché sarebbe scorretto per la competizione secondo me. Sarebbe brutto dire a qualcuno “Oh, amo la tua canzone!” e ad un altro “No, la tua non mi piace tanto”; sarebbe un po’ meschino.
“E ora prima di salutarci è il tuo momento dell’APPELLO PER FARVI VOTARE: dì quello che preferisci per avere voti da tutta Europa!”
Ho due messaggi. Il primo è che quando guarderete l’Eurovision, guardatelo con la motivazione con il quale è stato creato. E’ una celebrazione della musica, per stare insieme e festeggiare tutti i generi musicali. Vedo molti fan dell’Eurovision che dicono “E’ una gara! Mi piace questo, ma questo non mi piace!…” ma il vero scopo dell’ESC è quello di divertirsi con la musica proveniente da varie nazionalità e celebrare le varie differenze. Questo è quello che farò anche io e spero che anche il pubblico lo farà da casa. Il secondo messaggio è: se avete uno spazio libero, qualsiasi spazio libero nella Top 10, datelo a me! (ride)
“Please welcome Jendrik, who represents Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. What do you expect from your participation?”
I expect a lot of fun, just it being one of the best experiences that I have in my life. I don’t expect any place; of course I am going for the first place but I just want to enjoy the experience as much as I can.
“Would you like to talk about your song “I don’t feel hate”? It has a very happy and funny mood, but it has also an important message, doesn’t it?”
Yes, the message of the song is that you shouldn’t answer hate with hate. If someone has been disrespectful to you don’t bitch back. If someone bitch at you don’t bitch back, be better, be a better person: tell that person in a respectful way, that what they are doing is hurting, because being kind is always the better solution than fighting back. It is not going to stop otherwise. Be the better person and don’t hate back!
“You self-produce your own music and video that you promote through social media as Tik Tok or Instagram. Do you think social media are essential to further a music career nowadays?”
Yes, it is very essential, it is the reason I am here! I only made it to Eurovision by the video that I posted on Tik Tok. If I hadn’t done that, I would not have been noticed and I wouldn’t be here. It is not only about music anymore because music doesn’t make money, I am poor. It is about presenting yourself to the internet and be somebody you would like to follow.
“Unfortunately we will not see on stage the middle finger costume, that is in the video, due to the rules of ESC. Do you know that there is an hashtag #justiceformittelfinger? Can we say that ‘middle finger’ will be on stage with you for your tour in the future?”
It is kind of with me on the stage. I will have the ‘peace sign’ and the middle finger is there on stage but not like a solo middle finger; so justice was served. I know about the hashtag it is hilarious and I love it! People are like: “NO, justice for the middle finger!” there is actually a new hashtag going around, because in one of my videos there is a penis drawing in the background.
People were saying “we have to censor it!” so I did it and other people start saying “ justice for the penis, free the penis!” that was very weird. With all these hashtags middle finger and penis it is weird, I am giving weird vibes off I guess.
“We know that you also took part to the chorus of the song “10 Years”… sang by the Icelandic Dadi Freyr… how was it? And what are your favorite song of this ESC 2021?”
I don’t know if I am part of the song, I just send it in so I am not sure if he used it or not. I have a favourite song but I don’t want to say that because that would be unfair for the competition. It will be bad to say ‘I love your song’ and then to other ‘not so much your song’, it is mean.
“And now it’s your time to CALL TO VOTES! Say what you want in order to receive votes from all over Europe!”
I have 2 messages. The first one is when you are watching Eurovision see it as the reason why it got created. It got created to celebrate music together, come together and celebrate all different kind of music! I see a lot of Eurovision fans saying “It is a competition! I like this, I don’t like that…” but the reason was to enjoy music together and see different nationalities and celebrate each and every piece of music and that is what I am going to do and I would like the audience to do too. The second one is: If you have any free space in your top 10 list, any space, give it to me!
