Proseguono le video interviste ai protagonisti dell’edizione 2021 dell’Eurovision Song Contest con Rafal, il rappresentante della Polonia che ha ottenuto la vittoria nel concorso nazionale, per rappresentare il suo paese in gara.
In attesa di seguire in diretta su Radio Music Evolution, martedì 18, giovedì 20 e sabato 22, dalle 20.30 gli speciali dedicati a ESC2021, Matolas & Claudia hanno incontrato Rafal in gara con il brano “The ride”.
Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato Rafal (dopo il video la versione in inglese):
“Diamo il benvenuto a Rafal, che rappresenterà la Polonia per l’Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Cosa dobbiamo aspettarci dalla tua partecipazione?”
Ciao Italia, grazie per avermi invitato intanto: riesco a leggere in italiano comunque perché sono stato in Italia molte volte per sciare e riesco a leggerlo. La vostra linga è così romantica e ha una musicalità incredibile. E ovviamente amo il vostro cibo!! Ma a parte questo, questa gara è un’opportunità incredibile per me e sono onorato di essere in questo Eurovision Song Contest, quest’anno. Sono molto emozionato; ho aspettato questo momento da due mesi. Ora sono pronto a salire sul palco.
“Parliamo di “The ride” il tuo brano, che ha queste belle influenze anni 80. Come lo hai scelto per l’Eurovision Song Contest?”
Esattamente! E’ un po’ retrò e ha questo sound un po’ anni ’80 che io amo parecchio. E’ stato un lungo processo perché volevo provare a fare un album che celebrasse i miei dieci anni di carriera solista e cercavo di trovare una canzone con questo mood anni ’80. Ho chiamato diversi amici che mi hanno mandato le loro canzone. Poi un mio amico dalla Svezia, Thomas Carson, mi ha mandato la demo di “The ride” e me ne sono innamorato. E’ stata poi selezionata per il concorso e io ne sono stato immensamente felice e sorpreso.
“Sei stato il presentatore della scorsa edizione dello Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Come è stata questa esperienza? Ti piacerebbe condurre poi ‘quello degli adulti’?”
Sono riuscito a comprendere anche la domanda in italiano. (sorride) Essere un conduttore è qualcosa di diverso rispetto al cantante. Quando ti stai esibendo e tu sei l’artista, in quel momento stai creando una performance. Ma se sei il presentatore, devi creare invece l’energia. Bisogna essere pronti per ogni situazione, come un pilota, perché sono situazioni differenti.
“La tua carriera è cominciata nello sport, in particolare nel wrestling come tuo padre, oltre ad essere un conduttore tv e un cantante. Ma cosa ti piace di più tra le tre?”
Essere uno sportivo è stato un periodo della mia vita, successo molti anni fa, quando ero un ragazzino e non l’ho scelto, ma come mio padre sono stato anche io un wrestler. Ma nel 2006 non ho scelto di interrompere la carriera nel wrestling ma ho dovuto a causa di alcune ferite riportate al collo; così mi sono dedicato completamente alla musica. Io ho sempre preferito fare il musicista in realtà, amo la musica, mi piace viverla, respirarla ma è difficile scegliere perché sono cose che non puoi confrontare.

La canzone dei Maneskin mi piace un sacco! Grazie per questa bella opportunità di chiacchierare con voi. Lo slogan di quest’anno è Open up”, ovvero quello di aprirci al pubblico e ai concerti, che stiamo tutti aspettando da tanto tempo. “Please welcome Rafal, who represents Poland for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. What do you expect from your participation?”
Hi Italy, thank you for inviting me! I can read in Italian. I have been many times in Italy skiing and I am able to read Italian. Your language is so romantic and it has a great musicality! And I love the Italian food. But apart form this, the competition is a great chance and a great honour to be in Eurovision Song Contest this year. I am so excited and I have been waiting for this moment for over 2 months! I am now ready to start on stage.
“Let’s talk about your song “The ride” with lovely 80’s vibes. How did you choose it for Eurovision Song Contest?”
Exactly, it is a little bit retro and it sounds a little bit 80 and I love that. It was a process because I tried to make an album this year for my 10th anniversary of my solo career. And I tried to find a song with some 80’s energy and I called many friends to send me some songs. A friend from Sweden, Thomas Carson, send me that song as a demo and I loved it.Then if was selected and I was so happy and surprised.
“You were the host of the last year of Junior Eurovision Song Contest. How was that experience? And would you like also to host the oldest one, one day?”
I also understand the question in Italian! (smile) Being a host is something different! When you are performing and you are the artist you are a creator for the performance. But if you are a host you have to create the energy. You need to be prepared for every situation like a pilot, so it is a different situation.
“You started your career in sports, in particular wrestling as your father, and you are also a tv host. But what do you like the most?
Being a sportsman was a period of my life, It was many years ago I was a kid and I didn’t chose it as my father was a wrestler too. After that it was over it was 2006 , I injured my neck and I went into the music industry. For me it is always better being a musician. I love to breath music but it is hard to choose. They cannot be compared.
