Per la Svezia c’è Cornelia Jakobs, con il brano “Hold me closer” che insieme all’Ucraina, all’Italia, alla Spagna e al Regno Unito, è nella cinquina dei brani che i bookmakers danno tra i vincitori di questo Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
In attesa di scoprire cosa succederà durante la finale di questa sera, sabato 14 maggio, che seguiremo in diretta facebook sul nostro canale live dalle 20.40, Matolas ha intervistato Cornelia Jakobs in gara con il brano “Hold me closer”.
Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato Cornelia Jakobs durante l’intervista (dopo il video la versione in inglese):
“Diamo il benvenuto a Cornelia Jakobs che rappresenterà la Svezia all’Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Cosa ti aspetti da questa avventura?”
La cosa più importante è che posso fare quello che amo di più: essere su un palco, con una canzone che mi appartiene davanti ad un pubblico incredibile. Inoltre grazie a tutto questo, dopo potrò andare in tour per l’Europa, cosa che desidero più di ogni altra cosa; voglio finalmente suonare quanto più possibile. Per me è già una grande vittoria essere qui; sarà tutto diverso dopo l’Eurovision perché ci sono circa 300 milioni di persone che lo guardano ed è pazzesco! Non vedo l’ora!!
Sono concentrata su questo e credo sia importante mantenere il focus mentre faccio lo faccio: mi piace cantare, esibirmi e questo è il mio modo di esprimermi. Se penso troppo alla gara, perdo il focus. Proverò a fare come al Melodifestivalen quando ho provato a non pensare a tutta la gara, ma ho cercato di rimanere nella mia bolla, per ricordarmi chi sono, cosa faccio e riuscire a sentire quello provo tutto il tempo.
“Parliamo del tuo brano in gara “Hold me closer”: come lo hai scelto per l’ESC 2022?”
La canzone scelta per la Svezia quest’anno si chiama “Hold Me Closer” ed è stata scritta da me, Isa Molin e David Zandén, con i quali ho scritto tanti altri brani. Mi piace tanto scrivere con loro perché credo ci assomigliamo in molte cose e mi piace prendere il tempo giusto per tutti i dettagli, cosa che non sono riuscita a fare per bene con gli altri autori o produttori in passato. Volevo portare una canzone senza tempo, dato che al giorno d’oggi l’industria musicale è tutta così veloce e rapida. Hanno tanto talento e arriveranno altre canzoni molto belle.
“Sei mai stata in Italia prima d’ora? Conosci qualche parola in italiano e qualche artista con il quale vorresti collaborare?”
Amo l’Italia ma sono assolutamente negata con la lingua. Conosco ‘Viva la figa’ e altre parole del genere… Il lago di Como è sicuramente il posto che preferisco al mondo, come tutti quelli che ho visto in Italia… e sono molti. L’Italia è tutta bella in generale e non vedo l’ora di poter vistare ancora di più di questo paese durante il mio soggiorno. Grazie ai Måneskin per aver portato l’Eurovision nel vostro paese.
“Oltre alla tua canzone quale ti piace di più? Ti preoccupa il fatto di essere una delle preferite?”
Non sono ancora riuscita a vedere tutte le performance, ma ci sono molte donne quest’anno e questo mi piace molto. Sono innamorata di Monica della Lituaniza, con il suo stile jazz, super cool ed è così pazzesca con il suo look; è anche dolcissima, l’ho incontrata per poco tempo ed è stata super carina. Mi piace anche il brano di S10 dei Paesi Bassi, che ha una canzone bellissima. E poi impazzisco per Chanel, è così fottutamente incredibile, una ballerina incredibile ed amo la sua energia; è così libera sul palco; mi piacciono le vibrazioni che trasmette!
Ovviamente mi fa molto piacere essere una dei favoriti. E’ incredibile e lo prendo come il più grande complimento mi si possa fare, ma cerco di non pensarci troppo perché chiaramente d’altro canto così ti senti molta più pressione addosso e la gente pensa che, dato che sei già tanto favorito, non hai bisogno di voti, ma non è così. Rimango concentrata sul fatto che sono complimenti bellissimi e mi rendono molto felice perché ci sono molte persone a cui piace la mia canzone e quello che faccio; che poi è la cosa più importante.
“Stiamo vivendo tutti questo incredibile periodo con la guerra in Ucraina. Cosa vuoi dire a riguardo? Può la musica salvare ed unire il mondo?”
E’ difficilissimo pensare allo show mentre sta succedendo tutto questo. E’ così vicino a noi e fa strano continuare ad andare avanti con le nostre vite allo stesso tempo. E’ importante che tutti noi dobbiamo sapere cosa sta succedendo e non girarci dall’altra parte solo perché è difficile pensarlo. E’ una situazione complicata ed anche la domanda… non ho una risposta corretta per questo e credo che nessuno la possa avere.
Storicamente però la cultura è sempre stata di grande aiuto durante i momenti più difficili, così mi concentro a realizzare la miglior performance possibile e cercherò di essere la più vera possibile. Ammiro molto e rispetto i Kalush Orchestra che stanno partecipando quest’anno, nonostante tutto. La cultura è importante e penso che sia veramente coraggioso da parte loro fare parte di questa gara mentre c’è la guerra.
“Ed ora è il tuo momento dell’APPELLO PER FARTI VOTARE: dì quello che vuoi per riuscire a ricevere voti da tutta l’Europa!”
A tutti i fan dell’Eurovision, a coloro a cui piace quello che faccio; sono riuscita ad incontrare qualcuno di voi qualche settimana fa a Londra, voglio ringraziarvi con tutto il mio cuore per il vostro supporto. Quando ho incontrato i miei fan è stato bellissimo ed ho visto in alcuni di voi tutta l’energia e la bellezza che proveniva dai vostri occhi; è stato bellissimo e spero possa succedere nuovamente molto presto. Grazie mille per il vostro supporto e spero vi possiate divertire con quello che farò all’Eurovision e poi le canzoni che arriveranno e il tour! Vi aspetto!!
“Please welcome Cornelia Jakobs who represents Sweden for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. What do you expect from your participation?”
The most important thing to me about participating in Eurovision is that I get to do what I love, to be on stage with a song that I love in front of a crazy big audience. It also means that I will be able to tour after this, which is everything I ever wanted. I want to play live as much as possible. To me the big winning is to be a part of this. It’s going to be different after Eurovision cause it’s like almost 300 million people watching and that is fricking crazy. I’m so looking forward to that.
That’s my personal focus and I think it’s very important for me to keep that focus, on why I’m doing this. I’m doing this because I love to sing, and I love to perform and that is my way of expressing myself. And if I think too much of the competition, I lose that focus. I will try to do like I did in Melodifestivalen when I tried to not think about the competition at all, just to be in my bubble and remember who I am, what I do and be close to that feeling all the time.
“Let’s talk about your song “Hold me closer”? How did you choose it for the Eurovision?”
The Swedish entry “Hold Me Closer” is written by me, Isa Molin and David Zandén who I’ve written a lot with since then. I love to write with them since we think alike in so many ways, we like to take the time to really put the details right and that is something I haven’t felt with many writers or producers before. I like to give a song time, nowadays this industry is a lot about being quick. They are so talented and we have so many more songs to come.
“Have you ever been in Italy before? Do you know some Italian words and artists whom you would like to do a duet with?”
I love Italy, but I’m super bad at the language. I know ‘Viva la figa’ and a few other things. The Como Lake is actually my favorite place on earth, like of all the places I’ve been… which is a lot. And I know that Italy in general is very beautiful, and I can’t wait to explore more of the country sites. Thank you Måneskin for bringing home Eurovision to your country.
“A part for your song, which one in the competition do you like the most? And are you scared to be one of the favorites?”
I haven’t seen all of them yet but there’s a lot of women this year that is so good I’m especially in love with Monica from Lithuania. Her jazzy vibe, super cool song and she’s so iconic in her look and super sweet. I met her briefly and she was so nice, and I really like the song. And also, there are the Netherlands, S10. Super beautiful song also. And I love Chanel, she so f***ing cool, such a great dancer and I love her energy and she’s so, like, free. I like her whole vibe.
Of course, I feel super happy to be one of the favorites beforehand. It’s crazy and like the biggest compliment to be honest. I try to see it like that because there’s of course also a perspective of pressure and it has happened many times before that someone who is hyped don’t get votes because the viewers don’t think it is necessary.
I mean it’s always a risk to be in the top beforehand. I don’t take anything for granted in any way. I try to focus on the fact that is just a super big compliment, and it makes me so happy because it means that there’s a lot of people out there who likes the song and likes what I’m doing. That’s the important thing.
“We’re all living bad times with this incredible war. What would you like to say about it? Could music save and unite the world?”
It’s hard to take it in, everything that is happening now. That it is so close but still so far and it is a kind of strange to keep your life going at the same time as this is happening. It is so important that we know what’s going on and not shut off just because it is hard to think about. It’s a very tricky situation and question – I don’t have a great answer to it, I don’t think anyone has.
But I guess historically culture has always been a big help during hard times. So, I try to focus on that, I’m going to do this performance and I’m going to be as true as possible. I really admire and respect the fact that Ukraine is participating this year. Culture is important and I think it is really brave of them to still be a part even though there’s a war going on in their country.

To all the Eurovision fans or to all the people that like what I do – I met a few of you and that was something new to me. I’m so grateful for your support, it means the world to me. When I met you, I could see in some of you, that it was so much life, energy and glitter and we shared that moment together.
