Saranno gli Intelligent Music Project a rappresentare la Bulgaria con il brano “Intention”. Abbiamo chiacchierato con Ronnie Romero, leader e cantante degli Intelligent Music Project, che salirà sul palco del Pala Alpitour di Torino con il ‘supergruppo’ per l’Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
In attesa di seguire in diretta sulla nostra pagina ufficiale facebook, martedì 10, giovedì 12 e sabato 14, dalle 20.00 gli speciali dedicati a ESC2022, Matolas ha incontrato gli Intelligent Music Project che gareggeranno con il brano “Intention”.
Ecco quello che ci ha raccontato Ronnie degli Intelligent Music Project (dopo il video la versione in inglese):
“Diamo il benvenuto agli Intelligent Music Project che representeranno la Bulgaria all’Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Cosa vi aspettate da questa vostra partecipazione?”
Siamo davvero molto eccitati di partecipare all’Eurovision che è un mondo ed un palco completamente diverso rispetto a tutto quello che abbiamo fatto noi in passato. E’ un palco assolutamente immenso e prestigioso per noi, totalmente nuovo! Siamo contenti e abbastanza tranquilli perché abbiamo già visto come sarà l’atmosfera durante i pre show, dove riscontrato che al pubblico piace la nostra canzone e la band.
“Ti va di raccontarci del vostro brano “Intention”? Come lo avete scelto per partecipare alla gara?”
Avevamo appena finito le registrazione per il nuovo album e abbiamo pensato che c’erano un paio di canzoni che sarebbero state adatte all’Eurovision. Abbiamo così proposto tre brani alla televisione nazionale e a loro è piaciuta tantissimo “Intention”, così è stata scelta direttamente per rappresentare la Bulgaria quest’anno.
“Il vostro gruppo è stato definito come ‘supergroup’, in quanto venite da diverse realtà soliste o in altri gruppi. E’ stato difficile trovare un proprio equilibrio tra tutti voi?”
In realtà no; una delle cose più importanti negli Intelligent Music Project è l’alchimia che si forma quando suoniamo live insieme. Mi ricordo quando tre anni fa mi unii alla band per cantare tre brani nel nuovo album e da quel momento sono diventato il lead singer del gruppo, scrivendo anche tre brani proprio per il nuovo album. Abbiamo trovato il team giusto con il quale stare bene sul palco, fare quello che ci piace, uscire insieme e divertirci: ci sentiamo molto fortunati di poter condividere tutto questo; come se fosse un regalo per fare quello che più ci piace nella vita.
“Stojan Jankulov vi ha dato qualche consiglio su come affrontare il palco, dato che lui aveva già partecipato in gare per la Bulgaria nel 2007 e nel 2013 con Elitsa Todorova?”
Stojan è veramente una persona atipica; è divertente lavorare con lui perché quando gli abbiamo chiesto qualcosa a riguardo sull’Eurovision, lui ci ha semplicemente detto “Si va lì; si suona e ci si diverte. E’ qualcosa che provi una volta sola nella vita.” Ha già infatti detto poi che l’anno prossimo ha intenzione di ritornare all’Eurovision Song Contest da solo!
“Siete mai stati in Italia prima d’ora? Conoscete qualche parola in italiano e qualche artista con il quale vi piacerebbe collaborare?”
L’Italia è veramente un paese importante per me; ci sono stato spesso. La scorsa settimana ero a Roma e sono stato in Toscana e ho lavorato anche a Lugano. La mia etichetta discografica è poi di Napoli e spesso vengo in vacanza ad Ischia. L’Italia è sicuramente il paese che preferisco nel quale venire non appena ho un po’ di tempo libero: c’è il vino più buono come il Valpolicella o un buon Chianti; il cibo buono… Inoltre ho conosciuto la mia ragazza a Milano durante una Fashion Week: lei lavorava come modella e io suonavo in un live; le ho chiesto di sposarmi sul tetto del Duomo di Milano, quindi l’Italia è sicuramente nel mio cuore.
“A parte il vostro brano, qual è la canzone che vi piace di più? C’è qualcuno che temete più di altri?”
Se devo essere sincero sono spaventato di tutti; il livello della gara quest’anno è davvero altissimo ed è davvero difficile scegliere secondo me. Sicuramente però darei i miei 12 punti a Sam Ryder dell’Inghilterra perché ha una voce incredibile ed è un ragazzo davvero bravo e molto umile.
“Stiamo vivendo un’incredibile situazione riguardo questa terribile guerra. Cosa vorresti dire a riguardo? Può la musica essere uno strumento per unire e salvare il mondo?”
Credo che sia il momento migliore per tutti di mostrare appieno lo spirito di unione che è insito nell’Eurovision Song Contest. Tutta l’Europa deve essere unita e i musicisti hanno la responsabilità ora più che mai di portare un po’ di spensieratezza e gioia a tutti quanti. Non andiamo all’Eurovision per la gara ma perché vogliamo rendere felici le persone.
“Ed ora è il momento dell’APPELLO PER FARVI VOTARE! Ronni, dì quello che vuoi per far votare gli Intelligent Music Project da tutta Europa!”
Sono felicissimo e sicuro che andrà tutto bene e faremo una grande esibizione. Non voglio che la gente voti per la Bulgaria per ragioni politiche o di competizione: se riusciremo a rendervi felici allora votateci! Grazie, ci vediamo a Torino.
“Please welcome Intelligent Music Project who represent Bulgaria for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. What do you expect from your participation?”
We are very excited. It is a very different world this Eurovision. Is something we never experienced before. It is something new for us. We are excited and we are confident because we saw that in the pre shows we saw that people like the band and the song.
“Would you like to talk about your song “Intention”? How did you choose it for the Eurovision Song Contest?”
We were just finishing the recording of the new albums and we thought that there were a couple of songs that could work for Eurovision. So we sent the proposal of 3 songs to the national television and they liked them and Intention was selected.
“You are defined as a Supergroup, because you are a mix of different artists from diverse backgrounds both solo or in a group. Is it difficult to find a proper balance between you?”
Not really. One of the most important things in this band is the chemistry we have when we play together. I remember I join the band 3 years ago and I was invited to sing 3 songs of the album and ended up being the lead singer and I also wrote 2 songs of the new album. We found the right team to go out on the stage to what we like to do and have fun. We feel blessed it is a gift. We have a career doing what we love.
“Does Stojan Jankulov give you some advice since he has represented Bulgaria in 2007 and 2013 with Elitsa Todorova?”
He is a very atypical person. He is very fun to work with him. He said: “Just go there play and have fun is something that you experience once in a life time. He is saying now that next year he is going alone.
“Have you ever been in Italy before? Do you know some words and artists in Italian? Who would you like to do a duet with?”
Italy is a very special country for me. I visit Italy very often. Last week we were in Rome and I have been to Tuscany I worked in Lugano. My record label is from Napoli. I spent my last holiday in Ischia. It is our favorite country every time we have some time off we go to Italy. Favorite wine, Valpolicella, a good Chianti and good food. I met my fiancée in Milano she was modeling in the Milano Fashion Week. I proposed to her on the top of Duomo de Milano.
“A part for your song, which one in the competition do you like the most? And who are you scared of?”
I am scared of everybody. The level of the competition is so high this year. Is very complicated. I would give my 12 points blindly to Sam Ryder from UK. He is a very good voice and he is a very cool guy very humble.
“We’re all living bad times with this incredible war. What would you like to say about it? Could music save and unite the world?”
It is the perfect moment for everybody to show hoe the spirit of European union should be. How Europe can be united. Musicians we have responsibility now to bring a little happiness and a little joy to everybody. It is not for the competition we go there because we want to make the people happy.
“And now it’s your time to CALL TO VOTES! Say what you want in order to receive votes from all over Europe!”
I am very excited that we are gonna do great. I don’t want that people vote for Bulgaria for political and competition reasons. If we can make you happy then vote for us. Grazie ci vediamo a Torino.
